Bio

Alesi Majorine is a Lawyer and an Advocate for Human Rights and Women?s Human Rights. She is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Zoota Initiative for Development, a Non-Profit Organisation based in Arua District that is fighting for justice, empowerment, and equality of the marginalized in her community.
Alesi began her career as a Legal Assistant in Kampala where she practiced law whilst assisting Organisations to become legally compliant. In 2020, Alesi relocated to Arua District to commence her change work. She started her career in the Civil Society space as a Volunteer at Feminature Uganda and as well volunteered severally in her village where she organized a number of trainings and engagements on human, children, and women?s rights issues.
Due to her leadership achievements, she became the Project Coordinator for the USAID-EWMI CSSA Project at Feminature Uganda, where she provided civil society strengthening services and activities to CSOs, media practitioners, human rights defenders, and women?s rights activists in order to promote the Civic Space in Westnile. In this position, she saved a number of Organisations from being closed due to non-compliance to regulatory requirements.
She was further entrusted with more roles as the Project Manager for Skilling Youths for Increased Employability (SKY) Project funded by the Aga Khan Foundation where she led the training of over 500 out of school youths in Business & Entrepreneurship skills and legal management.
Alesi excelled in her roles, and was promoted to Programs Manager within a year in 2022 where she was given more responsibility to manage and supervise a total of 6 Projects for the Organisation. She also became a mentor grooming the next generation of thought leaders particularly girls and youths to take charge of their communities.
Alesi has big dreams for Westnile, for this reason, in 2023, she founded Zoota Initiative for Development through which she is currently carrying out her change work. Through Zoota, she has increased the participation of women and youths in cross border trade, promoted civic engagements, community leadership, advocacy, and defended the human rights of the under privileged.
