The LéO Africa Institute and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) are pleased to announce the latest cohort of 16 emerging civic and public sector champions who will be joining the 2024 Huduma Fellowship class. This Fellowship provides training in thought leadership, public affairs management, and policy making.
We would like to thank all applicants who applied to join the Class of 2024. The overwhelming number of impressive applications received is testament to the growing interest in the programme and the impact it is having on young and emerging leaders within the Ugandan public sector.
Following a rigorous selection process, these individuals have demonstrated exceptional dedication to driving positive change within their communities and are poised to become influential leaders in Uganda’s public sector.
This year’s Huduma Class comprises 9 females and 7 males, representing a diverse array of backgrounds and experiences. Drawn from various government bodies, including ministries, departments, and agencies, as well as the civic space in Uganda, these fellows bring a wealth of expertise and perspectives to the fellowship program.
Throughout their year-long fellowship, the selected fellows will engage in a series of seminars, workshops, and immersion experiences designed to deepen their understanding of the evolving role of government in service delivery to citizens. They will also explore the changing demands on the public sector in Uganda and the critical responsibility of public officials to address these challenges effectively.
Commenting on the announcement, William Babigumira, the Head of Faculty at the LéO Africa Institute expressed enthusiasm for the incoming cohort, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome these talented individuals into the Huduma Fellowship program. Their commitment to driving positive change is truly inspiring, and we look forward to supporting them as they embark on this transformative journey.”
Now in its fourth year, the Huduma fellowship has already inducted 62 champions who are actively working across government agencies in Uganda. Upon successful completion of the program, fellows will be formally inducted into the LéO Africa Institute network, which boasts over 150 outstanding leaders across 8 African countries. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to join other affiliate networks of the LéO Africa Institute across the continent and around the world.
